N.K. Jemisin is the author books including the Inheritance Trilogy and The Broken Earth Trilogy, the first two entries of which, The Fifth Season and The Obelisk Gate, won back-to-back Hugo Awards for Best Novel. For two years, she reviewed science fiction for The New York Times in a column called “Otherworldly” (since picked up by Amal El-Mohtar) and her short fiction has appeared on Strange Horizons, Clarkesworld, and here on Tor.com, among other venues. According to Orbit, her collection will range from “dragons and hateful spirits haunt the flooded city of New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina” to an alternate dimension where “a utopian society watches our world, trying to learn from our mistakes” and will include Jemisin’s Hugo-nominated short story “The City Born Great”, first published here on Tor.com.
In a statement shared by Literary Hub, Jemisin said, “It’s amazing to me to be coming out with a collection of short stories now. Back at the beginning of my career, I didn’t think I was capable of writing short fiction, let alone publishing it! I think my longtime readers will enjoy the chance to see the evolution of my style and attitude, and I hope new readers will like just seeing what kinds of worlds and weirdness I can come up with.”
